TEXTILE

FACE OF THE EARTH

Natural dyes as an attempt to revive ancient traditions. Artisans work to preserve the use of plant and animal dyes, techniques that stretch back more than 1000 years in the indigenous Zapotec tradition. Natural dyes produce more vivid colors, are safe and environmentally friendly.

All our textiles are hand-woven by artisans of Mexico using traditional flying shuttle pedal or back strap looms.

The diamond with its four corners symbolizes the face of the earth as in Mayan traditions the earth has four corners and four elements. The symbol is an embodiment of time and space in Mayan spirituality.

Organic Cotton Throw

The Organic Cotton Throw is a finely woven fabric made from 100% organic cotton crafted on a traditional flying shuttle pedal loom in the Central Valleys of Oaxaca. The incorporated embroidery has been worked in naturally dyed wool. The orange color was extracted from a herb native to Mexico and Guatemala, known as Pericón. The blue pigments are derived from the native plant Añil. The red pigments of the Grana Cochineal are exuded from crushed insects harvested on the nopal cactus.
Available colors: Pericón, Grana and Indigo.
